Information for Monday

Happy Sunday Hurricanes,

This is a long email but bare with me it's full of important information! Can you believe it, the time is officially here!! We start our very first practice on TOMORROW Monday! It was wonderful to see so many new faces at the open house last week and to see how much our returning swimmers have grown. I want to take a minute to introduce myself to new families. My name is Mariana Raley. I have the honor of being president of the Hurricanes and along with our amazing board we would like to welcome everyone to/back to our swim family. We cannot wait to get the season started. As a previous Hurricane myself, I have a lot of love for the team and I look forward to an amazing season. I have two swimmers on the team--Quinn who is 9 and Zoey who is 7. I also have a little "future Hurricane," Colton, who is 3.

As a board, we are trying to make sure everything is smooth and ready for the season and we appreciate your patience in this process. We are fully aware that without your commitment this season would not be possible. That is EXACTLY what this team is all about: chipping in to make the magic happen! We are ALL volunteers, and we ALL have busy lives. Being helpful and cheerful is what keeps the Hurricanes swimming in the right direction (pardon the pun, I couldn't help it)!

This is SUMMER LEAGUE and it's supposed to be FUN! Our swimmers are learning new techniques and working out harder than they may have in a long time-- (maybe since two seasons ago!). Head Coach Abbey likes to make this comparison: Imagine running around a track as fast as you can - now imagine doing it while trying to breathe only 5 times; that's swimming. Please encourage your kids and keep them hydrated and well-fed. And RELAX. They're going to do great!

Just a few reminders for this week,

  1. We have had quite a few new families join our team and we need to adjust our swim times for May a little. Practice times are as follows: only the times in red have changed.

6 and under - 5:30-6

7 and 8 - 6-6:45

9 and 10 - 6:45-7:30

11 and 12 - 7:15- 8:15

13 and up- 7:30-9

  1. Have your swimmer ready, with their suits & swim caps on (caps are optional) a few minutes before their practice time. Change rooms will not be available.
  2. Write your swimmer's name on the top of their arm in Sharpie
  3. Swimmers will be dropped off at the pool main entrance, rotating gate
  4. No parents or siblings will be allowed within the gated pool area
  5. Swimmers will come in and wait in the area near the diving boards/lifeguard office. They cannot pass the pylons until a coach comes to get them.
  6. When a coach tells the swimmers they are ready, all swimmers will walk down towards the pavilion at the bottom corner of the pool, near the pool stairs.
  7. Swimmers will set their bags & towels on the picnic tables and benches.
  8. At the end of practice, swimmers will collect their bags & towels and promptly leave the pool area so the next group can get started
  9. Please remind your swimmers, there will be no hanging out and visiting within the pool gates, we need to make room for the next group of swimmers.
  10. Swimmers will exit the pool, through the gate at the bottom corner of the pool area, where their bags are located.
  11. Parents, please meet your swimmers along the fence in the park.
  • No parents or siblings will be allowed to enter the fenced pool area during practice times but feel free to watch from the grass area on the outside of the fence
  • Your swimmer will need
    • Goggles
    • Kickboard
    • Water bottle
    • Fins - ages 9 and up
    • Swim cap - optional
    • Please have your swimmer's names on kickboards and fins.
  • Please have your swimmer use the restroom before coming to practice.
  1. Please send your swimmer with a bag to put their things in. Many swimmers have actual swim bags, but even a reusable shopping bag will work for them to hold their towel, goggles, ect. Fewer things get lost or forgotten if there is a bag to keep everything together. Also LABEL EVERYTHING!!!!
  2. Please make sure your swimmer has their goggles and kick board, water and has their name written with a sharpie on their upper arm at every practise this week. This will help coaches learn names faster. We will have some board members at the drop off gate this week to help with this if needed.
  3. PARENTS, while waiting for your swimmers we encourage you to watch from the grassy area by the playground. While we are not allowing parents on the deck during practice it does not mean that you won't be able to watch. Bring a blanket or a chair and enjoy watching the growth of your child.

Weather Policy

Weather in our region, especially in the summer, is very unpredictable and storms may whip up just as quickly as they blow away. Our coaches are trained to handle these situations and will always do what is best for the safety of our swimmers. We will make every attempt to notify swimmers and parents of canceled practice sessions prior to practice start time. Due to the sudden nature of weather related problems, this is not always possible. In the event bad weather hits during practice, coaches are required to clear the pool of all swimmers for 30 minutes at the first sign of lightning or thunder. With each sign of lightning or thunder, we are required to reset the 30 minute timer for pool closure. Coaches will determine on a case by case basis whether to continue training or to cancel practice entirely. When it becomes necessary to cancel practice, you will be notified via email & SwimTopia Mobile notifications.

We're off to a GREAT start. It's going to be a fabulous season!
